My Philosophy of Teaching
I teach math because I recognize the way it serves as a gateway to success in our education system. I believe that every student has the potential to meet these demands if we do our best to support them. I've seen firsthand the way math affects a student's academic self-esteem, and recognize my role as a tutor and educator in building them up to feel excited to learn.
My tutoring style is laid-back, fun, but most importantly individualized, so I tend to morph my style to my student's needs and existing attitudes about learning. I focus on building confidence in problem solving, test-taking strategies, and giving students an idea of the big picture: why am I learning this, and where is it going in the future?
I also don't always know everything! I create a healthy culture of error which has been proven to foster a growth mindset. I offer my own thinking processes, model how to use resources effectively, and give encouraging feedback to show that we all need to check our work sometimes, and silly math errors aren't the end of the world if we try our hardest to catch them. My students benefit from a relatable but successful role model and I have proven results with students improving their grades and reaching their goals.
