Olenka Tytla

B.S. Math Education & B.A. Mathematics, cum laude

I am a teacher, mentor, creative, and lover of learning. Professionally, I am an online math tutor with 4+ years of experience empowering my students to overcome their challenges and own their strengths.

I tutor students in grades 6-College or topics up to and including Calculus 2. My areas of expertise include Geometry, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.

Individualized

I dedicate my time to tutoring because too many students are not getting the support they need in the classroom. I will get to know your student as a person and a learner and personalize the way I teach to their needs.

I select and design problems with each student's interests in mind, and I reassess and improve my teaching approach as I learn about their needs.

Practical

I strive to teach practical, applicable skills alongside the math concepts.

These include problem-solving, test-taking, studying, efficient use of resources and tools, decoding academic language, and advocating for themselves. I also have specific experience teaching these skills to students with ADHD, processing disorders, anxiety, and interrupted schooling.

The more information I have about the curriculum they are learning from in school and their classroom teacher's expectations, the more I will be able to prepare them for success.

Connective

I am less of a teacher adult and more of a friend/mentor and personal cheerleader to do math with and ask for help. Each and every one of my students is a person I care about and a connection I actively cultivate.

I create a safe space for students of all backgrounds to tell me about their day and teach me new things, and I always listen. I empower them to listen and learn as well.
